Privacy Policy

This policy covers both the website at gameofhumanity.com and the game at play.gameofhumanity.com. They are operated by The Game of Humanity, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We have no interest in monetizing your data. We collect only what is needed to make the game work.

The Website (gameofhumanity.com)

The website is static. It does not set cookies, run analytics, or collect any personal information. The only third-party service loaded is Google Fonts, which may log your IP address per Google’s own privacy policy.

The Game (play.gameofhumanity.com)

Account information

To play online, you create an account. We collect:

• Your email address
• Your first and last name
• A password (stored as a one-way hash — we cannot read it)

An avatar is randomly assigned to your account. You can play without an account in solo mode, in which case none of this applies.

Location data

When you log in, your IP address is sent to a third-party geolocation service (ip-api.com) to determine your approximate city and timezone. This is used to calculate a sunrise time displayed in the game. We do not store your IP address or precise location. The geolocation service receives your IP address per its own terms.

Game data

While you play, we store:

• Your game moves and actions (in multiplayer mode)
• Win/loss record and number of games played
• Quiz scores and answers (if you take the optional quizzes)
• Any feedback you voluntarily submit

Multiplayer sessions are automatically deleted after 30 days. Other game data is retained indefinitely but is not shared with anyone.

Browser storage

The game uses session cookies to keep you logged in and browser local storage to save your solo game progress. No tracking cookies are used.

Third-party services

The game uses the following third-party services:

• Google reCAPTCHA v2 — during registration only, to prevent automated signups. Subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.
• ip-api.com — for geolocation on login, as described above.
• Google Fonts — for typeface delivery.

We do not use advertising networks, analytics services, or tracking pixels.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone. Data is stored on servers hosted by SiteGround and Railway and is accessible only to the game’s development team.

Children

The game is designed for ages 13 and up. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.

Your Rights

You can request that we delete your account and all associated data at any time by emailing info@gameofhumanity.com. We will process your request within 30 days.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above.
