Effective October 13, 2026
These terms cover both the website at gameofhumanity.com and the game at play.gameofhumanity.com, operated by The Game of Humanity, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. By using either, you agree to these terms.
The Game of Humanity is a free, ad-free educational game about human history. The website provides information about the game, a user guide, and an interactive game board. The game itself is a multiplayer online board game playable solo or with others.
To start a game, solo or multiplayer, one player (the host) needs an account; other players can join a multiplayer game through the host’s join link. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
We may suspend or delete accounts that are used to harass other players, exploit bugs in bad faith, or otherwise disrupt the experience for others.
There is no cost to use the website or play the game. There are no in-app purchases, subscriptions, or premium tiers. We do not display advertising.
The game presents historical events, dates, and interpretations for educational and entertainment purposes. While we strive for accuracy, the content is not intended as professional historical, legal, or political advice. Some content is intentionally provocative or satirical as part of the game’s design.
The game involves social dilemmas by design — cooperation, betrayal, and competition are part of the experience. That said, interactions with other players through any communication features should remain civil. We reserve the right to moderate or restrict access for abusive behavior.
The game’s design, artwork, text, code, and other materials are owned by The Game of Humanity, Inc. or used under license. You may not copy, redistribute, or create derivative works from the game’s content without written permission.
You may share screenshots and link to the site freely.
We aim to keep the game available but make no guarantees of uptime. The game may be unavailable for maintenance, updates, or reasons beyond our control. Game progress in online sessions may occasionally be lost due to server issues.
The game and website are provided “as is.” To the extent permitted by law, The Game of Humanity, Inc. is not liable for any damages arising from your use of the game or website. This is a free educational project run by a small nonprofit — please set your expectations accordingly.
Your use of the game and website is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes what data we collect and how we use it.
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date above. Continued use of the game or website after changes constitutes acceptance.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States.
